The Division has planned it`s first meeting of the new executive for the weekend of August 14th & 15th.

Training

The Canadian Ski Patrol System provides a thorough first aid course which prepares patrollers for almost any situation which may arise either on or off the ski hill or trail.

Our Patroller Education Program trains our patrollers specifically for various types of conditions in which we operate. Candidates are trained by fellow patrollers who have been trained as Instructors, following our new Instructor Certification Program.

For an individual to become a patroller, he/she must complete a course covering an extensive list of First Aid Skills and CPR. Additionally, other components such as Accident Scene Management, Chair Lift Evacuation, Rescue, Communications, and Search and Rescue are also part of our program. This course is delivered primarily using a hands on approach, however, some classroom and self directed learning is also involved.

A CD-ROM based first aid manual is provided and updated annually. It includes a workbook, written exam review sheets, and other tools available to the Patroller to assist in successful completion of the training program. Patrollers must re-certify each and every year to be sure that they are up to date on both new and existing treatments. Annual refresher courses may be offered in some areas.

Patrollers must meet a minimum national standard of training and examinations both on a first aid and on-snow portion of the program. This ensures that patrollers from across the country are trained to the same standard, no matter where they patrol - from small hills in the East to large mountains in the West.

To ensure the highest quality, all new and existing national procedures are reviewed on an ongoing basis by a standing committee of medical professionals from various sectors within the Emergency Medical System, and approved by both a National Education Committee, and National Management Team.

The CSPS is committed to delivering a high quality first aid course to it's members, thereby ensuring that the skiing/boarding public are treated efficiently and properly by well trained Ski Patrollers. For more information, get in touch! We look forward to hearing from you.
